Entry procedure reference
Direct entry
Used across the wide 180° sector that doesn't require repositioning. Fly to the fix, then turn (in the direction of the pattern) directly onto the outbound leg.
Teardrop entry
Used when arriving within about 70° of the inbound-course radial, on the side just before it (in the direction of the turn). Fly to the fix, turn to a heading about 30° from the outbound course (into the holding side), fly outbound about one minute, then turn to intercept the inbound course.
Parallel entry
Used when arriving within about 110° of the inbound-course radial, on the side just after it (in the direction of the turn). Fly to the fix, turn to parallel the inbound course outbound (on the non-holding side) about one minute, then turn (in the direction of the pattern) to intercept the inbound course back to the fix.
